I am still trying to iron out how to organize “headphone reviews” but in the meantime, we have another one of our customary “text and pictures unboxing”. This time it is the Sony WH-CH700N headphone, a bluetooth and ANC combo, with 3.5mm playback as well…
WHAT’S INCLUDED?
At the risk of sounding like a master of the obvious, this is mayhaps the most useful part of an unboxing post, what you get in the box 🙂
- the headphones (battery is sealed inside)
- a microUSB to USB charging cable (no AC adapter)
- a 3.5mm audio cable
- a colorful getting started guide
- paperwork (warranty, etc)
- these and nothing more (the PORG shown in the pictures is for entertainment/trolling purposes)
OPENING THE BOX
Opening the outer white box reveals a black box fitting inside it…
At the top of the box we have the (expensive for the manufacturer) Apple MFi verbiage/logo…
And the other expensive buzzwords on the box, apt-X HD and DSEE. Event though it’s a brand new Sony headphone, there is no LDAC support (even though Sony and Google “baked it” into Android Oreo).
OPENING THE TRAY
The inner tray is under nine inches, and opening it reveals the headphones resting in their little membrane-y tray….
This is how the custom-fit membrane looks on its own:
And this is the box emptied out…
AND NOW THE WH-CH700N HEADPHONES
This could go on and on, so might as well show the headphones now 🙂 Here’s the earcup and a few more views of the headphones…
And look inside the earcup…
THE BUTTONS
Both earcups have buttons on them, so if your fingers fumble in that area, they’ll find something to press 🙂 One earcup has the Volume UP/Down and the multi-function (play/pause, next/previous track) buttons, while the other one has the power button, the ANC on/off button, the 3.5mm input, and the charging input (sadly it is microUSB, not USB-C)…
THE HEADBAND
The headband has some padding on the inside, and the left and right side of the headphones are marked by color-coded L and R around the temples area of the headphones…
You can also see the extension of the headband. It color-matches on the inside but it is silver-y/shiny on the outside…
THE CABLES
You get two cables. The micro USB to USB charging cable and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable with one side flat and the other right-angled. These are 2-ring plugs, so there’s no mic/remote support. There is no AC adapter included. You have to charge them using your own USB AC adapter or using a computer or other powered device…
THE PAPERWORK
In addition to the boring paperwork (warranty, legalese), they also come with a fold-out colorful user guide on how to get started and how to get things done…
There is some useful paperwork-info on the outer box as well, explaining the use of the multi-function button, and the four modes the headphone can work in. These are as expected.
